29 True Things || 29 Years
As is my birthday tradition, here are 29 things I know to be true right now, on my 29th birthday.
The greatest treasure in my life is friends who feel like home, no matter where they are.
Emotions don’t fade if you suppress them - let yourself feel.
“You’re worth more than only having one person see you and know you deeply”
Therapy is essential in my life. Try it!
If I could have one beverage for the rest of my life, it would be Vernor’s, so I think I’ve completed my metamorphosis into a true Michigander.
Naming your emotions is important - your people can’t care for you in meaningful ways if you’re not communicating.
Naming group chats is one of my love languages.
Also voice memos/messages.
2021 was a year that warranted putting up my Christmas decor before Thanksgiving and I am not sorry.
I find hope in naming and noticing lovely things in mundane surroundings.
There is something so cozy about being around a fire with people you love.
It is a gift to create things and have people want them in their homes and lives.
I could probably survive if I was only allowed to listen to Harry Styles and LEON.
I’ve officially become a reader again. Well, a “listener” since I mostly use audiobooks. 95 books this year and shooting for 100!
Getting back into books has reminded me how much I love learning and how important it is to me.
I’m learning to embrace the weird ways my brain works and working on sharing my thought processes instead of hiding them.
Proximity alone is not a proper foundation for friendship.
Most meals I make will involve at least one of the following: mushrooms, sweet potatoes, gnocchi, spinach, brussels sprouts.
I just learned while typing #16 (thanks to spell check) that it’s “brussels sprouts” not “brussel sprouts” and my mind is blown.
The first snow each winter still feels like magic.
Love in action is not always tender and soft. Sometimes love is fierce and bold for the sake of others.
I need to have grace for myself and others, and hope everyone else can muster the same.
My job is not, and should not be, my identity.
Routines are hard for me to keep, but so valuable for my brain.
I try to be a minimalist but fail when it comes to black turtleneck sweaters and books (yes, I own physical copies even when I just listen to the audiobook…)
I own multiple shirts with skeletons on them, and I wear them strategically to the gym and the airport when I don’t want people to bother me.
Few things match the euphoria of getting a, “sorry, running late” text when you are also running late (which I almost always am).
Just started watching Ted Lasso and it’s perfect.
As always, I love you for reading this year’s list, whoever you are.
